Vodafone has announced that it is scrapping EU roaming charges in 40 countries.
In move which follows a scheme similar to Feel at Home launched by Three, customers can now use their phone plans at no extra charge. However the scheme is currently only being rolled out to new or upgrading pay monthly contract customers.
Unlike Three which also supports Pay as you go customers, Vodafone is allowing customers to call numbers in the same country they are visiting at no extra charge.
The announcement comes ahead of a planned EU regulation to allow all EU citizens to roam across Europe fee free, expected this June.
Outside the EU, Vodafone will charge £5 per day to use a UK plan abroad, including countries such as USA, Russia, China and India.
